A Beginner’s Guide to Roaming and Ganking in Mobile Legends
The role of roamers and gankers in Mobile Legends isn’t easy. You have to know when and where to be at all times so you’re almost never late to team fights and will still be available to help out teammates who are struggling in their lanes.
At the same time, you also have to make sure that you can keep the enemy team on their toes so they play passively. This gives your team the extra confidence boost to push deeper into enemy territory and secure objectives without worrying about their safety.
Unfortunately, being anywhere and everywhere at once is impossible to do, but you could very well try.
Here are some tips we have for those who are new to Mobile Legends and would like to perfect the art of roaming and ganking.
First things first, there aren’t hard set rules. You can literally gank and roam anytime you like. Also, with experience, you’ll learn when it’s okay to gank in certain ill-advised situations and when ideal situations aren’t always the best option for ganking and roaming.
The best times to gank in Mobile Legends are:
Ganking and roaming means always being where the heart of the action is. This can mean where there are the most resources and objectives. As a roamer and ganker in Mobile Legends, it is your job to make sure that your teammates get ahead in levels and farms.
Remember, if you can guard the resources and secure them for your jungler, which in turn allows you to gank the side lanes faster, then the enemy has no choice but to play defensively.
The most basic rotation of a ganker and roamer in Mobile Legends is to go back to mid as often as possible. Always take note of the respawn times of your jungler’s buffs and the Turtle. This way, the two of you can coordinate a proper gank and secure a kill as well as possibly one more objective.
Don’t forget, your goal isn’t to push the side towers, that’s the offlaner’s job. As the roamer and ganker, your role in Mobile Legends is to control the map and set the tempo.
So, there you have it. These tips and tricks won’t necessarily make you the best at roaming and ganking in Mobile Legends, but that’s okay. Everyone has to start somewhere, and it just so happens, that you started here. The good news is that, with our help, and a lot of practice, you’ll find that roaming and ganking is one of the most enjoyable and engaging roles in Mobile Legends.

Why ganking and roaming are important in Mobile Legends
- To dictate the pace of the age.
- To gain control of the jungle area of the opposite team.
- To give your hard carry (marksman) ample space and time to farm their core items.
- To secure objectives.
- To force opponents to play from a careful and defensive position so your team can play safe.

When is the best time to gank in Mobile Legends?
First things first, there aren’t hard set rules. You can literally gank and roam anytime you like. Also, with experience, you’ll learn when it’s okay to gank in certain ill-advised situations and when ideal situations aren’t always the best option for ganking and roaming.
The best times to gank in Mobile Legends are:
- When you destroy an opponent’s turrets, you basically force them to shove down that lane. This results in either two things: they respond by sending multiple heroes to that lane or just one. If it’s the latter, the lone hero is a prime candidate for ganking.
- If the opponent is pushing in on one of your lanes, coordinate a gank with one of your teammates so you don’t end up giving away the objective.
- If you’ve pushed away an opponent to another lane, it’s time for you to roam and seek ganking opportunities elsewhere.
- Watch out for the cooldown of important skills of the enemy. If they can’t use their most powerful spells, try to see if you can gank and surprise them.
- Generally, your priority lane for ganking is the lane where your marksman is (so they can farm freely) or where the enemy marksman is (to prevent them from farming freely).
Basic tips for ganking in Mobile Legends
- Try to take objectives each time you roam and gank. Remember, each failed gank is a missed opportunity that your opponent can capitalize on. If you can’t secure an enemy hero kill, at least get a turret. Also, if you do get a hero kill, try to see if you can take turrets after.
- Coordinate with a jungler or a mage whenever you roam or gank. This increases the chances of success.
- Always make sure that you have crowd control. Slows, stuns, and any means of immobilizing enemy heroes are imperative for ganking. Burst damage also helps. Preferably, you should have both when you’re roaming and ganking.
- Check out your minimap. Your opponent will be roaming around and looking to gank someone from your team like you are.
- Don’t be afraid to dive into enemy territory if it can secure kills and space for your hard carry.
- Learn how to chain your CC. Throwing multiple stuns at one enemy doesn’t make the duration longer. Time each CC correctly to prolong the effect.
- Be one step ahead of your opponent. Think ahead to where they’ll go and run off to if they sense that they’re getting ganked. Conversely, keep an eye out for potential signs on the mini-map that the enemy is preparing for a counter gank.
- Don’t forget to communicate.
- You don’t always need to go for the kill. Often, making enemy heroes recall back to their base is enough.
- Your job is to help your Jungler and Midlaner to get levels as fast and as safe as possible. Ideally, both should be Level 4 first ahead of their enemy counterparts with your help.
- Again, kills aren’t everything. Vision + Zoning is better than kills.
Never do this when ganking in Mobile Legends
- While diving into turrets is pretty much expected as a gank in Mobile Legends, you don’t always have to do it.
- Don’t telegraph your team’s ganking patterns. Try not to be too obvious that you and your team are preparing to gank.
- Never let Mages and Assassins dive first. It’s the Tank’s job to dive in. Hence, their name.
- Always go for a second objective after a kill. Going back to the jungle to farm or roaming to another lane wastes prime opportunity to secure a turret if not more.
