A new Playstation handheld is reportedly under development as per Sony

The new and upcoming PlayStation handheld, which goes under the codename Q Lite, is yet another piece of Sony equipment that needs the PlayStation 5. The Q Lite employs Remote Play with the PlayStation 5, a feature the console giant has been promoting over the past few weeks, rather than being a cloud streaming device.

With the PSP and PS Vita, Sony dominated the handheld console industry. It now appears that the corporation wants to resume producing portable gaming devices. The PlayStation Q Lite handheld device, which is still undergoing QA testing, is described in a recent article. The hitch is that it will only function with Sony's PlayStation Remote Play. The new handheld device is characterized as a PlayStation 5 DualSense controller with an 8-inch LCD screen in the middle.

The device will be able to broadcast PS5 games, but it won't be able to play games on its own without an internet connection. There is no assurance as to whether it will be compatible with other cloud-based gaming platforms. According to the information presented, Sony's future PlayStation portable may resemble the Nintendo Wii U GamePad, which connects to the Wii U using a modified low-latency Wi-Fi protocol and enables you to play your games on a smaller screen as long as you are connected to the same network as the console.

Early prototypes of the console's physical design reveal that it will resemble a PlayStation 5 controller but with a big 8-inch LCD touchscreen in the middle. The gadget has speakers, an audio input jack, volume controls, and other features you would typically find on a handheld. It also has adjustable triggers for haptic feedback.

Industry source Jeff Grubb previously stated that Sony planned to announce its "second phase of the PS5", which was in reference to its next game lineup. Conversely, though, the new detachable disc drive PlayStation 5, Project Nomad (wireless earphones), Project Voyager (wireless headset), and Q Lite (handheld) are all expected to appear within a very short amount of time, proving that Sony's hardware offerings are very much in the "second phase." It's known that the PlayStation 5 Pro plans to launch during the 2024 holiday season.

The PlayStation 5 Pro and Detachable Disc Drive PS5 are both expected to launch after the Q Lite, which is currently in its QA phase.
