Asus ROG introduces the new state of the art Matrix RTX 4090 GPU

A new limited edition Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card from Asus has been introduced. It does away with fans in favor of a revolutionary liquid metal design that promises to deliver record-breaking performance. Aside from having an unusual dual-pump design that sets it apart from other GPUs, the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 is advertised as having "the highest out-of-the-box boost clocks of any RTX 4090 in the world."

One of the first cards to have liquid metal on the die will be ASUS' new Matrix, which is one of the most difficult things to do on a GPU. The company asserts that its specially created coldplate will protect the GPU, RAM, and VRM area and prevent any spills of liquid metal. The business has created a method to apply it securely even when the card is put vertically. Given that all current gaming ROG laptops use this type of thermal compound, it is important to note that ASUS has experience with liquid metal.

The business has experience managing thermals on computing devices utilizing liquid metal. In select ROG series gaming computers, Asus has its own unique method for securely placing Liquid Metal over the CPU.

One of the greatest items in the Asus ROG booth this year, aside from the ROG Ally, was unquestionably the new Asus ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 GPU. One of the sleekest and maybe most powerful GPUs you can get is the GeForce RTX 4090 from Nvidia. But before we discuss its inner workings, I simply have to remark that this thing looks utterly chic. It comes packaged in an aluminum casing with a transparent front panel, and the interior is also quite svelte-looking. It results in a GPU that really oozes premium, down to the metal connectors for the liquid cooling loop, which appear to be polished.


Since the fans use magnetic connectors to make cable management simpler, there are no visible cords on the radiator. The cable that synchronizes the colors and supplies power to the fans and radiator should still be present, but according to ASUS, it is concealed inside one of the cooling tubes. With AIO coolers, ASUS has nevertheless addressed one of the most significant design problems in all of graphics.

This graphics card will go on sale next quarter, according to ASUS, and will cost close to $2000 as a collectors' edition.

The pinnacle of gaming power
No reason to beat around the bush: the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 has the highest boost clocks of any RTX 4090 on the planet. Featuring a custom-engineered coldplate that captures heat not only from the RTX 4090 GPU die, but also the VRMs and memory chips, this card has even more headroom to push its clocks higher, for longer, allowing us to bin only the absolute best dies for this showpiece graphics card. Liquid metal is an incredible thermal interface material, producing much lower temperatures when compared head-to-head with traditional thermal pastes. It does, however, have one significant challenge: it’s electrically conductive. When applied improperly, it has a chance to make contact with exposed components and risk a short circuit. But building on years of expertise with liquid metal in the ROG laptop division, we have a patented production process that can safely harness the power of liquid metal while still allowing for vertical GPU mounting.

By applying a UV resin above the surface-mounted capacitors that border the GPU die, and then adding two additional protective layers between the die and the main PCB, we ensured that the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 exploits the incredible thermal transfer inherent to liquid metal with no risk of leakage.

Liquid metal is magical, but it’s just one element of the full solution that the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 uses to keep temperatures and noise levels low. Enter a custom, extra-thick 360mm radiator, backed up by a trio of ROG MF-12S ARGB fans. These daisy-chainable fans snap together with a magnetic connector that links the fans and transmits control signals and power. Installation and cable management will be a breeze since you’ll only need one cable for all three fans, and you’ll end up with effortlessly synchronized ARGB lighting effects, too. With high-static pressure and airflow, these fans spin at less than 1000 RPM to keep the GPU operating at just 60°C under its 450W TGP. Never compromise on power, performance, or acoustics ever again.

Most AIO liquid cooled GPUs require a small fan on the card itself to keep surface mounted components cool, in addition to the fans mounted to the radiator that keep the GPU heat itself under control. The custom full-coverage coldplate on the ROG Matrix RTX 4090, however, eliminates the need for an auxiliary fan, as it makes contact with all of the heat producing components on the PCB, allowing the radiator to cool the entire card on its own. A customized and more powerful pump feeds the radiator with more coolant than any of our previous designs, keeping the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 running at peak efficiency at all times.

Stunning from every angle
The ROG Matrix RTX 4090 features an incredibly bold and modern design to spotlight the GPU frame and housing. Sporting our first use of indirect Aura Lighting, the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 also boasts a “hollow” chamber, with the main coldplate, PCB, and pump shroud protected by a larger aluminum body. Bold ROG branding adorns the frame, with lightbars in the central cavity and on the top of the card. A stainless steel backplate keeps the card secure whether you prefer to mount traditionally or vertically to showcase its true beauty. The ROG Matrix RTX 4090 sports a single 12VHPWR cable, and the fan power cable is hidden in the main cooling tubes, ensuring that cable management is a breeze.

As a flagship card, the ROG Matrix RTX 4090 features a Dual BIOS switch, allowing you to seamlessly switch between Quiet and Performance modes. Produced with our Auto Extreme manufacturing process, the entire PCB is soldered in a single, fully automated pass, reducing costs and eliminating the need for harsh cleaning chemicals in between solder passes.
