Axie Infinity Beginners Guide, How to get Started and Earn SLP

Axie Infinity is a virtual realm called Lunacia where gamers may combat, nurture, and trade Axies, which are mythical animals. You'll need at least three Axies, which may be utilized in both PvE and PvP combat and bred up to seven times each to produce you more Axies (obviously).

Game Overview

Axies are virtual pets that users raise and combat in Axie Infinity. It has a lot in common with strategy games like Pokemon and turn-based card games like Hearthstone. Axie Infinity is a blockchain-based game in which each Axie is a non-fungible token (NFT). If you're unfamiliar with these terms, we recommend doing some preliminary study on blockchains and NFTs.

To begin playing Axie Infinity, you must first purchase three Axies. After then, you may either combat hostile monsters in Adventure Mode to level up your Axies, or battle with other player's teams in the Arena to compete on the leaderboards.

Axies are your virtual pets in the game. Axies have different attributes, one of which is the Axie’s base class. There are 9 different Axie classes:
  • Plant
  • Reptile
  • Dusk
  • Beast
  • Bug
  • Mech
  • Aqua
  • Bird
  • Dawn

Each Axie class has different strengths and weaknesses, and usually determines the Axie’s role in the team. To make sure all classes are balanced, there is a rock-paper-scissors system in the game where a certain class can be strong or weak against another class:

What are Axie Stats?

Axies have four stat characteristics in addition to their basic class:
  • The Axie's health, or the amount of damage it can take before being knocked out, is measured in HP.
  • Axies with greater speeds attack first, while those with lower speeds strike later.
  • When the Axie executes numerous cards/moves, the skill enhances the damage caused (a.k.a. combo)
  • Morale – improves the probability of landing a critical hit and allowing them to enter “last stand,” allowing them to attack a few more times before being knocked out.

Axies have 140 stat points overall, which are divided among the four qualities according on their base class.

For example, Plants usually start with high HP, perfect for a defensive tank role. Meanwhile, Beasts have high Morale and low HP, making them a great attacker from the team backlines.

What are Axie Body Parts?

Aside from their base class, Axies also have 6 different body parts:
  • Eyes
  • Ears
  • Horns
  • Mouth
  • Back
  • Tail

Here is an example: this Axie has a Mavis eye part, an Ear Breathing ears, a Garish Worm horn, a Goda mouth, a Little Branch mouth, and a Rice tail.

Each body part belongs to a specific Axie class, and depending on the its class, the part gives additional stat bonuses:
  • Plant — 3 HP + 1 Morale
  • Aqua — 3 Speed + 1 HP
  • Reptile — 3 HP + 1 Speed
  • Beast — 3 Morale + 1 Speed
  • Bug — 3 Morale + 1 HP
  • Bird — 3 Speed + 1 Morale
An Axie can have a different combination of parts from different classes. This is what makes each Axie unique.

What are Axie Abilities/Cards?

Finally, Axies have four distinct powers or techniques that they may employ during combat. Cards are used to symbolize these things. In total, there are 132 abilities/cards in the game. On sites like Axie World, you can see the entire list.

The Axie's powers are determined by the number of horns, mouths, backs, and tails it has. This is what distinguishes each Axie. Offensive abilities, such as inflicting harm to opponents, are one type of ability. They can also be defensive, such as restoring Axie's health or taking energy from the other side.

A good Axie should have a well-balanced set of abilities that make him perform his role efficiently.

For example, Attacker Axies should have cards that deal lots of damage, while Defensive Axies should have cards that allow them to survive longer and defend their team.

There are two cryptocurrencies associated with Axies:

Axie Infinity (AXS)
is a major ecosystem currency that has no in-game purpose at the moment but will in the future provide various (yet undefined) use cases for gamers.

Small Love Potion (SLP) is the other money, and it is the currency that may be farmed, traded, or used to breed your own Axies. You can see how much SLP you may earn everyday by watching some YouTube videos on how to farm it successfully.

Ways to earn in Axie Infinity world:
  • Farming SLP by playing the game (either PvP or PvE fights, depending on your preference) and selling the coin on a cryptocurrency exchange (we recommend Binance).
  • SLP may also be used to breed your Axies, with the progeny being sold on the official Axies Infinity marketplace. This necessitates a thorough understanding of breeding chances and values, which you may learn more about in the Axie Infinity discord channel.
  • The third option is to trade “Lands” on the same marketplace. Because land usage has yet to be implemented in the game (possibly in Summer 2021), their value is solely theoretical at this time. What is known is that the land will provide the owner with some form of passive income – by other players walking over it or using the content which will be available on the land.
So what do I need to start playing Axie Infinity?

To begin, you'll need three Axies, as indicated at the start.
  1. Unfortunately, because to the current high gas prices, getting all three of them will set you back more than $500. Breeding an Axie necessitates many wallet transactions, each of which incurs a hefty ETH gas tax and significantly increases the price of freshly produced Axies.
  2. These difficulties should be resolved soon with the addition of the “Ronin” wallet to the game. The Ronin wallet is an Etherium-based side chain that aims to remove excessive fees and decrease the price of a single Axie down to about $300.
  3. Purchasing a land in Axies is even more costly at the moment, with the lowest ones costing approximately 1 ETH.
Another commonly cited aspect is the creators' gifting of three soulbound Axies to each player. This will draw more players to the game and make it easier to get started, but no date has been set for when it will be available.

Is there now a method to play the game without having to invest any money? Fortunately, there is.

There are a variety of scholarship schemes available in which existing owners donate their Axies so that you can play the game. You may begin playing and farming the valuable SLP coins, but you must divide the profits (about 50-50) with the real owner.
