The new Naruto anime called Boruto - Naruto Next Generations just debunked an ongoing theory on where did Boruto got his Tenseigan in teaser of him fighting Kawaki.
Initially Boruto's byakugan was thought to be transplanted from Hinata or Himawari as either of them died. It is now debunked as we see Boruto in his childhood days possessing a Tenseigan on hes left eye.
In the Anime Boruto already posses the Tenseigan a combination usually this is attained by combination of Ōtsutsuki and Hyūga clans to transform the Byakugan into the Tenseigan. Since Naruto is a descendant to the Ōtsutsuki and well Hinata as Hyuga is no surprise Boruto upgraded hes byakugan into Tenseigan.
There is still no information regarding the scar or the tattoos however at this point thought it seems Naruto has been killed by Kawaki or sent elsewhere.
