Call Of Duty 2021 Is Set To Head Back To World War 2, Reportedly Titled Vanguard

The next game in the Call of Duty franchise is reportedly returning to World War 2 with the working title "Call of Duty WWII: Vanguard". It will be taken over by Sledgehammer Games, who is responsible for the development of Call of Duty: WWII and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

According to reports from Modern Warzone, credible Call of Duty insider / leaker VictorZ have pointed out that the upcoming title will be set during World War 2, although he did not provide any more additional details other than the game's setting.

However, it is also reported that some parts of the game will be taking place in the 1950's. Considering the fact that World War 2 ended in September 1945, this leads to a lot of speculations if the next Call of Duty franchise title will be set during the Korean War or not. It also hints the possibility of the game pursuing a potential 'fictitious' timeline where World War 2 did not end in 1945. This detail remains to be unclear to be held true, but there is also no confirmation yet that the setting will not be linked to the Korean War throughout the game.

Modern Warzone has also reported that the game will receive its own Warzone map, since every COD title for at least the net five years will have its own footprints on Warzone. With the integration of Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War into Call of Duty Warzone, fans can assume that there will be a new map for each game title, with its own weapons and assets ported over to the free-to-play battle royale game to help continue its growth of contents.

Sledgehammer Games previously worked on Call of Duty: WWII and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, where the previous title averaged 77/100 critic score on Metacritic. Despite CoD: WWII not having high praises, it still believed that Sledgehammer Games will be taking over the reigns in developing WWII: Vanguard.

Publisher Activision has yet to announce an official release date and title. But as per Activision's Q4 2020 earnings call, it is expected to roll out some time in late 2021
