Ghost in the Shell is a long-running Japanese cyberpunk media franchise that began with the same-named manga series. The series originally aired from 1989 to 1991, and two sequel series were released throughout the 1990s.

Furthermore, based on its setting and characters, the Manga has had three separate animated film adaptations, one live-action version titled Ghost in the Shell, two different television series, and one video game. Major Motoko Kusanagi is the main character in the story, and she investigates a cyber criminal known as the Puppeteer, who hacks human minds in order to try and make them commit crimes. The long-running franchise will now be joined by Call of Duty.

The Ghost in the Shell event adds a futuristic "cyber city" to the Isolated map as a new point of interest near Nuketown for battle royale mode. It will have neon lights, high-rises, crossing tracks, and a central plaza at night.

New Game Features:
  • New Revive Mechanic: Instead of retrieving dog tags to revive your fallen teammates, players will now collect their ghosts. These ghosts can be found at the spot where they were eliminated and will allow the player to begin the reprinting process to bring them back into the game.
  • PvE Enemies: New AI robots and mechanical dogs can be found on Isolated and players will engage in Player vs Environment (PvE) combat with these creatures. Defeating the AI enemies will allow players to collect their parts and these can be exchanged for a Cyberware enhancement at the Redeem Facility.
  • Cyberware Enhancements: Operators can install one of four enhancements during a Battle Royale match. The Cyberbrain Drone allows players to connect to external terminals to control a microdrone that’s useful for scanning and hacking hostile targets; the Ocular System exposes nearby enemies and displays their stats; Cyberbody Limbs grants improved physical power and a transformed right arm for an aerial melee attack, and the Neuro Systems optimizes precision and targeting abilities.
