Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II will be released on Friday, October 28, 2022

This is a week earlier than Vanguard, which was released on November 5, 2021. In addition to the release date, Activision included a video and artwork including Captain Price, Gaz, Soap, Alejandro, and Ghost, all of which are well-known MW characters. Graffiti text on a freight container in the footage also seemed to hint at a June 8 gameplay reveal date. J-8-22 is written in brilliant green graffiti, which could indicate that fans will only have to wait around two weeks to see the game.

MWII is expected to be a huge hit, as it will be produced by Infinity Ward, the same firm that worked on the Modern Warfare game that came out in 2019. Despite user complaints about certain features of the game, it shattered sales records and generated over $1 billion in revenue by the end of 2019.

The pressure on Infinity Ward may be even greater than usual, given a Bloomberg article from February claiming that Treyarch's next game may not be released in 2023 as anticipated. Instead, MWII is expected to be the main title for the next two years, marking a significant shift in the annual Call of Duty release cycle.

A new premium Call of Duty game isn't the only shooter in the works for Activision this year; a new Warzone game, a free-to-play shooter with battle royale aspects, will be released in 2022. The original Call of Duty: Warzone was released in March 2020 as part of the season 2 expansion for Modern Warfare 2. Activision and Raven Software have since added material from Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War and Call of Duty: Vanguard to Warzone.

Aside from that, the teaser features a drone-captured glimpse at real-world artwork featuring Mexican Special Forces personnel Captain John Price, Ghost, John "Soap" MacTavish, Kyle "Gaz" Garrick, and Colonel Alejandro Vargas. There are no games.

Modern Warfare 2 is a direct sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which was released in 2019 and was Infinity Ward's reboot of the sub-brand that began in 2007 with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the most successful Call of Duty game to date. Activision revealed the title and logo for the new Call of Duty in April, naming it (officially) Call of Duty:
