Customize Your Own Game With Battlefield 2042's New Community Driven Platform: Battlefield Portal

The upcoming Battlefield franchise title, Battlefield 2042, will be featuring one of the most interesting game modes called Battlefield Portal when it launches on October this year. Make, share, and play custom Battlefield game modes together with your friends!

Last June, publisher Electronic Arts and developer DICE introduced the arrival of Battlefield 2042. And on July 22, EA revealed Battlefield Portal, the game's third multiplayer mode focusing on community interaction and user-created levels. Although players won't be able to edit any of the actual maps, Battlefield Portal will give them the power to create their own signature Battlefield experiences for other players to join in on as well. It is not a map editor, nor does it give modders access to Frostbite's internals. It is primarily a web-based interface called Battlefield Builder powerful enough to create custom games. The game's Logic Editor will also let players tweak gameplay rules at the scripting level, which could result in wild new multiplayer modes built from scratch.

Here is an overview of Battlefield 2042 via Electronic Arts:
Battlefield™ is a rich series that has taken you to many eras of warfare over the past 19 years. And now we’re including an exciting way for you to experience and celebrate that lineage.

Battlefield™ Portal is a community-driven platform within Battlefield™ 2042 that will let you create and find fantastic experiences made by the series’ creative and passionate community. The creation suite includes Settings, custom modes, and a Logic Editor so you can build your own signature spin on Battlefield’s sandbox; you’ll be able to change team ratios, tweak victory conditions, restrict weapons, and even put different factions from different eras in Battlefield’s history against one another. Those who want to focus on discovering what others have created will have easy access to an entire world of unexpected battles featuring some of the series’ most famous eras mashed together in distinct, exciting experiences.

Battlefield Portal allows you to do more than just mess around with items from Battlefield 2042. In addition, it will include all seven maps from its All-Out Warfare mode as well as the classic Battle of the Bulge and El Alamein maps from Battlefield 1942, Arica Harbor and Valparaiso maps from Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and Caspian Border and Noshahr Canals maps from Battlefield 3.

Moreover, the game will be bringing together more than 40 weapons, more than 40 vehicles, and more than 30 gadgets from the three theaters of war - Battlefield 1942, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3.
  • Weapons:
    • 40+ Weapons from 3 Theaters of War;
    • M1 Garand, Panzerschreck, G3, M416 and more
    • Plus the inclusion of Battlefield 2042's All-Out Warfare Arsenal.
  • Vehicles:
    • 40+ Vehicles from 3 Theaters of War;
    • The Spitfire and B17 Bomber make their return alongside modern hardware such as the Quad Bike and Little Bird.
    • Plus the inclusion of Battlefield 2042's All-Out Warfare array of vehicles.
  • Gadgets:
    • 30+ Gadgets from 3 Theaters of War;
    • Reconnaissance items such as the MAV and Radio Beacon will be available as gadget selections alongside the Defibrillator and EOD Bot!
    • Plus the inclusion of Battlefield 2042's Gadgets.

Factions are also making a comeback in Battlefield Portal. In addition to the specialists from Battlefield 2042, the mode includes seven armies from classic games, including the United Kingdom, the United States, and Germany from 1942, as well as the United States and Russia from Bad Company 2. Battlefield Portal also includes support for classic soldier archetypes such as the assault, recon, support, and engineer roles from Battlefield 3.

Perhaps the most exciting aspect is that Battlefield Builder will be available to anyone who has an EA account. A copy of Battlefield 2042 is not required to create a custom Battlefield Portal experience, which can then be shared with others using a unique code. Senior Design Director Justin Wiebe of Ripple Effect Studio, formerly known as DICE LA, said that "Battlefield Portal is a love letter to fans and creators. This creative suite will give the community more opportunity than ever before to create their own spin on the Battlefield experience.”

Battlefield 2042 is slated to come out for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Origin on October 22, 2021. The launch will also include Battlefield Portal, All-out Warfare mode, and another one called Hazard Zone which is yet to be revealed. EA also said that a Battlefield 2042 open beta will take place in September. You can read more details about the game on its official website.
