Dead by Daylight is looking to throw in the iconic world of Resident Evil into its game, together with a few familiar faces and a new means to survive as well.

This Behaviour Interactive horror adventure recently celebrated its 5th-year anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, a new Resident Evil-themed chapter will be released on June 15 for the asymmetrical horror game Dead by Daylight, which will be familiar to anyone who has played the recent Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes. Dead by Daylight's Resident Evil chapter will bring in characters you'll surely recognize. It will feature two new survivors, Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine, as well as a new killer from Resident Evil 3, Nemesis.

For those of you uninitiated, Dead by Daylight is a 4v1 asymmetrical PvP game in which four players control survivors attempting to flee while a single player controls a killer pursuing them. Because the survivors are helpless, their mission is to avoid the Killer and repair generators throughout the map so they can escape and fight another day.

In addition to the game's new chapter, the Resident Evil add-on will bring with it the Racoon City Police Station and will be partially procedurally generated.

With the Resident Evil collaboration, there are a couple of unique twists. Survivors in Dead by Daylight are usually unarmed, so Leon and Jill won't be carrying their trusty guns, but they'll be a little tougher than the rest of the cast. Both of the new survivors will have combat-like perks that players can get used to. When the Killer tries to sabotage the generator, Jill can place a mine on it, which triggers and explodes, blinding them. Leon, on the other hand, has a perk that causes flashbangs to spawn all over the map, providing a handy distraction. Killers can be stopped from carrying downed survivors with flashbangs, and if used correctly, they can also be blinded. Also, after making a certain amount of progress, Leon can now hide in a locker to craft a grenade, marking the first time players will be able to spawn a brand new item.

Nemesis, on the other hand, is one of the most unique Killers in the game. His in-game name is Tyrant, and he wields a powerful tentacle attack that can infect survivors with the T-Virus, making him a ranged killer in the vein of the Huntress, Trickster, or Deathslinger. Nemesis will be the first AI-assisted killer in Dead by Daylight's history. When Nemesis is the Killer, he will also spawn AI-controlled zombies who will attack unwary survivors who get too close, biting and infecting them with the T-Virus. As a result of the virus, survivors will cough and vomit as they move around, revealing their location. When players are infected, Nemesis scales with their strength and deals more damage to infected Survivors. The more people he infects, the stronger his tentacles become.

The only way to solve this problem is to locate a T-Virus vaccine, which is only available in very small quantities across the map. Survivors will have to choose between cleansing the T-Virus early in the round or saving the valuable resource for later in the round. This new gameplay element is exclusive to Nemesis and should provide a compelling and on-brand threat.

“We could not have dreamed of a better way to celebrate our fifth anniversary than by welcoming the legendary characters from Resident Evil into our universe. They are at the root of all horror in video games and we are humbled to be able to honor that legacy with a new chapter, thus cementing our own position as the Hall of Fame of Horror. We are so very grateful to Capcom for everything they've done in the last 25 years to bring us immersive, terrifying games. It is an incredibly proud moment for us.”
-Mathieu Côté, Game Director for Dead by Daylight

With a June 15 release date, the Dead by Daylight Resident Evil chapter isn't far behind. It'll be accessible on all of the platforms where Dead by Daylight is presently accessible: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Google Stadia.
