Twentieth Century Fox dates Deadpool but delays Assassin's Creed in cinemas

The film adaptation of Marvel's Deadpool series is scheduled to hit theaters on Feb. 12, 2016, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Twentieth Century Fox and Marvel Comics announced the films release date yesterday, with Tim Miller set to direct. The film studio has also announced a change in the release window for the upcoming Assassin's Creed film adaptation. The film, which is set to star Michael Fassbender, was scheduled to open Aug. 7, 2015 but reportedly will not be ready in time.

News of the official Deadpool release date follows test footage of the project leakedonline. The video, shot a few years ago, featured actor Ryan Reynolds in the titular role; However, it is still unclear if Reynolds has signed a contract to star in the flick.

Plans for an Assassin's Creed film were made public in 2013. Since its announcement, several writers have taken a stab at the script, including Michael Lesslie (Macbeth), Scott Frank (The Wolverine, Minority Report), Adam Cooper and Bill Collage (Exodus: Gods and Kings).
