Navigate to store.steampowered.com/about/. Here, click on the green ‘Install Steam Now’ button. (Mac and Linux users should click on their respective links below this)
Step 2
Once the download has finished, run the setup file and click ‘Run’ on the the window that pops up to start the Steam Setup wizard.
Step 3
Click ‘Next’.
Step 4
Tick the box to accept the license agreement and click ‘Next’.
Step 5
Select your preferred language and click ‘Next’.
Step 6
Choose the destination folder you’d like to install Steam to. (A separate folder can be chosen to install Dota 2 in if you’d prefer.)
Step 7
Leave ‘Run Steam’ ticked and click ‘Finish’.
Step 8
Assuming you don’t already have an account, click ‘Create New Account’.
Step 9
Click ‘I Agree’ to accept the Steam Subscriber Agreement.
Step 10
Click ‘I Agree’ to accept the Steam Privacy Policy.
Step 11
Enter your preferred account name (your display name can be freely changed later) and password.
Step 12
Enter your email address (this can also be changed later).
Step 13
Choose a security question and answer.
Step 14
Steam has now been installed. You can run it by clicking on the automatically generated shortcut on your desktop or by finding the Steam executable in your chosen installation directory.
How to Install Dota 2
Step 1
Navigate to the ‘Store’ tab.
Step 2
Type ‘Dota 2′ into the search bar and click on it in the search results that show up.
Step 3
Scroll down the page until you find the green ‘Play Game’ button and click on it.
Step 4
Click ‘Next’.
Step 5
Untick unwanted shortcuts and click ‘Next’.
Step 6
Steam will now begin to download Dota 2. Click ‘Finish’ and navigate to the Steam ‘Library’ tab’.
Step 7
You will see ‘Dota 2′ coloured orange in your list of games along with its current download completion percentage and your current download speed.
Edit: In newer versions of stream, downloads in progress will be coloured blue.
Step 8
When ‘Dota 2′ turns from orange to white, the game has been fully downloaded. Click on it and Steam will run some further installations and then you’re ready to go. Have fun!
