Filipino DOTA 2 pro Heinrich Abad dies of leukemia

Heinrich “Heinrich” Abad, a former Filipino Dota 2 player, died of a leukemia-induced cardiac arrest at Cebu Doctors' University Hospital at 5:05 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2021, at the age of 29.

Heinrich was diagnosed with Acute Monoblastic Leukemia (AML) on May 12, 2021, a kind of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow. Days following his diagnosis, the Cebuano Dota 2 star experienced difficulties, requiring him to be transported to the hospital for treatment.

To support his family after leaving from professional Dota 2, the former Arcanys player pursued a profession in software engineering. Heinrich's partner Bev Sausal, on the other hand, was compelled to appeal for financial help on Facebook after his illness cut off the couple's main source of income.

Sausal also stated that the two were planning to marry in another Facebook post. “Diba dream baya sad na nimo na kaslon (Isn't getting married also your dream?)”

Bev Sausal, Abad's partner, claimed the 29-year-old Abad was diagnosed with leukemia on May 12 and developed problems a few days later, forcing him to be admitted to the Cebu Doctors' University Hospital.

Abad informed Sausal moments before his death that he wanted them to marry on Monday, June 7. Abad left the professional world in 2015 to seek a job in software engineering as he prepared for life as a family man and father to their kid, according to Sausal.

Heinrich is widely regarded as one of Cebu's most talented Dota 2 players. Marvin "Boomy" Rushton and Jun "Bok" Kanehara, both of whom now play for TNC Predator, were among his teammates in Arcanys Gaming.

Despite the fact that the Dota 2 pro had not competed in recent years, the Dota 2 community recognized him. Dota 2 community-initiated donation campaigns to help his family cope with his hospital bills in the last weeks of his life. Donations were collected on behalf of the family by teams and organizations such as Team Secret. Filipino players from the WePlay AniMajor paid homage to Abad after his death. Abad's achievements as a professional player were also acknowledged by a number of organizations and teams throughout the world.

Back in 2014, Abad gained notoriety as one of the first Dota 2 players to exceed 6,000 MMR. At his height, he topped the Southeast Asia MMR Leaderboards. From 2013 to 2016, Abad was a member of Arcanys Gaming. He played with Marvin "Boomy '' Rushton and Jun "Bok" Kanehara, both of whom are present with TNC Predator, during his stint with the squad. He was a carry and mid-laner until leaving Arcanys Gaming in 2016 and retired from competitive competition.
