Filipino Kid spent PHP 100k in Mobile Games Microtransactions PC iOS Android

We all know that feeling of power when we can spend on our mobile games. As a (self-proclaimed) veteran in the gacha community, I have mastered quite a bit in terms of being a F2P, a dolphin, or a whale depending on how the game is made and how much I love a game (or a waifu), as we turn into adults we are now responsible with our expenses but kids are not like that, they go on impulse (well, even adults do so, but that's not the point) and thus, we should be careful when we let them play games with microtransactions

Enter the Locsin Family's son. One of their twins has bought an enormous amount of microtransactions, first thought of as PHP 40,000 yet in the end, it has amounted to PHP 100,000, what an insane amount, right? In this situation, what would you do as a parent. While I get some might be super frustrated and annoyed by your kid doing this, you got to realize that he is only a child and did not expect this and while the parents could have taught their children how this works, it's not their fault. It's the kid's curiosity that, at an innocent age, is truly understandable.

Tabang Lord! Haha. So this happened to us. One of the twins unknowingly purchased mobile games and spent at least P40k in just 2 days! Good that I was able to track bank statements for our finance team today or else we could have spent more without any clue.

Hubby's account is connected with Google Play because we sometimes rent good movies on YouTube. Hubby's old phone with the Google Play app was handed to Tice last Christmas. We allow them Super Book times, Messenger Kids with cousins and friends and War Robots.
He got some spanking because he downloaded more games without asking permission. When asked after, he reasoned that the old games were too easy for him and he thought all the downloads were free. He cried a lot after we talked about it and forgave him. He was very sorry (and was too cute with those irresistible eyes). We explained that they are worth MORE THAN all the money in the world but following rules is also a good life skill to abide.
What a day!

Update: Turned out that our little Geek actually spent a total of P100k and not P40k! Request for refund was filed but not showing on our accounts yet. Parental controls have been added and a password for purchases. Is finding out that the purchase is P100k changed our feelings for our kids? NOPE. Again, we know how our kids and our parenting more than anyone else. This is a complete mistake (he thought all the downloads are free). We trust them and they are responding to discipline with the fear of God in their hearts. Check out their page to get to know them more:

. They are our WHY, our JOY, and our reward. As parents, we discipline to correct the mistake but NOT to equal our affection for our kids to the value of money or anything in this world

Of course, it is understandable that some spanking was in due but it was not due to anger but more of discipline, while it may be a little overboard for this generation, with proper control from the parent and proper discipline from the child, spanking can be an effective tool. In the end, they are currently filing the refunds for the purchases and hope we receive a report that it is a success.

This also falls to us, fellow mobile gamers, with a free-to-play mechanic built around the games there, it is necessary they find ways to gain revenue to pay their workers and to keep the service going, but always be mindful of what you spend as sometimes it can really be this huge and you never realize. Proper self-control and contentment can be a great asset in playing these games. Happy rolling folks and remember to whale responsibly!
