In a briefing for investors today, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata explains that 17 million 3DS systems have been sold in Japan in the three and a half years since launch, and new products were introduced there because demand seemed to have been satisfied. Other markets such as the US and Europe haven't exceeded that figure yet, despite their much larger population and potential.
The new 3DS consoles feature an additional analog pad, improved 3D screens for better viewing angles, a faster processor, among other things.
What do you think of Nintendo's decision to hold back a worldwide release?
