Koei Tecmo revealed that Fatal Frame Movie Adaptation is still in development

Koei Tecmo revealed that they are still working on a movie based on the Fatal Frame series.

Keisuke Kikuchi, creator of Fatal Frame series, said that there’s currently no plan for a remaster or a sequel title of the series, however, a movie project is already in the works and in development outside of Japan. The creator also discussed how difficult it is in porting the upcoming Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water to Nintendo Switch.

Since 2014, it was reported that an English movie adaptation of Fatal Frame is already in development. It was after the release of the Fatal Frame: The Movie, of the same year, that the news of an English movie adaptation circulated.

Originally announced in 2003, the production of the movie changed hands repeatedly before landing on the departed film producer, Samuel Hadida. He worked on Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Recently, Silent Hill director Christophe Gans verified that the movie was still in production back in 2020. Gans statement aligns with Kikuchi’s confirmation that the movie adaptation is still in the works.

Kikuchi also revealed that Koei Tecmo doesn’t have any sequels or remasters planned for the series but he raised a possibility of a sequel if the Maiden of Black Water remaster does well in terms of sales.

Kikuchi also discussed that the development team of Maiden of Black Water struggled in porting the game to the Nintendo Switch. They were able to reuse 3D models, however, the team took time improving the lighting system and effects of the game.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water will be launching on October 28 on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC. Its also available on Wii U.
