League of Legends Esports will be adapting VALORANT model next year

The developers of League of Legends, Riot Games, have revealed what their plans are for 2025. The LoL esports will be altered, which will become similar to that of VALORANT, bringing some significant changes to regions and more international events.

Next year, the LoL competitive model and landscape will not be the same. The multi-regional leagues, new international events, promotions, and relegations of the LoL esports will appear similar to fans of VALORANT Esports.

Currently, the Philippines is part of the Pacific Championship Series (PCS) region in the Asia-Pacific. However, starting in 2025, the PCS will become a part of the multi-regional APAC league. This change will merge teams from the Philippines, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macao, Japan, Oceania, and the rest of Southeast Asia.

However, due to this change, it will cause an overall decrease in teams as it will only feature eight total teams that will introduce promotions and relegations. The merging followed after the recent consolidation and integration of the League of Legends Circuit Oceania (LCO) and League of Legends Japan League (LJL) into the PCS ecosystem was made.

In addition to that, a new Americas league will emerge as well. The League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) from North America, the Brazilian CBLOL league, and Latin America’s LLA will be merging in 2025.

Aside from the regional changes, a new addition to the international ecosystem has been added as well, which is a third international event. Currently, it is still unnamed but it is known to take place before MSI. With the addition of the new event, all regions will follow a three-split year, like the League of Legends EMEA Championship. Only one team from each region will be featured in this event and to have more selection for a champion team, the “Fearless Draft” will be implemented.

“We’re also pushing the boundaries of LoL Esports by developing innovative strategies that integrate entertainment, partners, and League of Legends, giving fans new ways to engage with our sport. Examples include co-streaming, Worlds Fan Fest, Hall of Legends, and more,” says Riot.
