League of Legends Netflix animated series to Premiere in September

NETFLIX and Riot Games are bringing the global phenomenon League of Legends franchise to television with the animated event series “Arcane,” set to premiere on Netflix worldwide in Fall 2021.

Arcane is set "in the utopian area of Piltover and the impoverished underworld of Zaun," according to the Netflix synopsis, and will follow "the origins of two legendary League champions - and the power that will break them apart."

"Arcane was created as a love letter to our players and fans, who have been asking us for more cinematic experiences that dive deeper into the worlds and champions in League of Legends," Riot games exec Shauna Spenley said. "Netflix, with its incredible global brand and the shared goal of delivering premium, high-quality content, is the perfect partner to help us bring Arcane to players around the globe."

The first anime season of League of Legends is headed to Netflix. According to a new teaser trailer released on Monday, League of Legends Arcane will be available on the streaming service later this fall.

While the teaser is just a few seconds long, it already seems to share a few details about the show's storyline. The trailer begins with a clash between Vi and Jinx, two League of Legends characters who are already well-known, and an enigmatic third character who appears to skate on walls and has lightning powers, and wields some sort of staff knife.

If the series is set in these two areas, we could see familiar characters like Viktor, Warwick, Caitlyn, or some of the other dozen or so champions from the area make an appearance.

"Arcane' was crafted as a love letter to our players and fans, who have been requesting more cinematic encounters that delve deeper into League of Legends' worlds and champions. Netflix is the ideal partner to help us introduce Arcane to players all over the world, thanks to its incredible global reputation and joint mission of providing premium, high-quality content,” said Shauna Spenley, Riot Games' global president of entertainment.

“League of Legends has sparked worldwide excitement and fandom, and we're ecstatic to be the birthplace of ‘Arcane,' the first tv series set in this universe. The series is said to be a visually stunning thrill coaster that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats,”
said Dominique Bazay, Netflix's head of original animation.

League of Legends Arcane will be produced by Riot Games in partnership with Fortiche Productions, which it has worked with on several cinematics and music videos in the past. The series will debut on Netflix later this fall.
