League of Legends: Wild Rift Patch 2.2 Preview and Details

There's a lot to look forward to in League of Legends: Wild Rift's Patch 2.2. Although there is no confirmed release date for the update yet, it is expected to set out on April 2021 and will be bringing in new champions, tank items, skins, game mode, wild pass and a position preference ranked system into the game. Let's take a closer look.

According to Riot Games Developer Jane "DjangoUnjaned" Chen, players have noticed a lot humanoid champions in the game. Because of this, Wild Rift's Patch 2.2 update will be bringing in five new "monster" champions: Galio, Rammus, Khazix, Rengar and Renekton.

Galio, the Colossus

Galio is a tank mage with a lot of crowd control effects in his skill set. You can force a fight with an enemy with taunt and also knock them up. His ultimate, Hero's Entrance, allows him to set up and initiate team fights effectively in many ways. This makes him one of the game's best engagers.

Rammus, the Armordillo

Rammus is another tank champion set to roll out on patch 2.2. His skill set also include a lot of crowd control effects. He can easily chase enemies, taunt them, and reflect damage dealt to him, all while increasing his armor and magic resist making him one of the most annoying and tankiest champion in the game.

Kha'Zix, the Voidreaver

Kha'Zix is a jungler assassin from The Void who takes out his enemies in stealth. He is perfect for picking off the enemy carry and getting out of the fight safely. His ultimate, Void Assault, allows him to freely evolve one of his abilities for each time it is ranked up which makes it easier for him to adapt to different game situations. It also triggers his passive, Unseen Threat, and makes him invisible for a period of time when casted for easier assassination.

Rengar, the Pridestalker

Kha'Zix's rival, Rengar, is another jungler assassin coming into the game. He is a vastayan trophy hunter who collects the head of his enemies to gain bonus damage. Entering bushes will trigger his passive, Unseen Predator, and allows him to leap at his target with his basic attack. With this, players will now be more wary of bushes in the game. His ultimate, Thrill of the Hunt, also makes him invisible and reveals enemies within range while also allowing him to leap on to his target regardless of entering a bush.

Renekton, the Butcher of the Sands

Renekton is a fighter champion who excels greatly in one-on-one combat. His skill set is perfect for dealing with enemy champions in lane and can also make him very tanky. His ultimate, Dominus, transforms him into Tyrant form, making him bigger and gaining more combat stats.

Riot Games have been looking to flesh out the game's item roster and will be adding new tank items into the game and make minor changes to Sheen, Trinity Force and Lich Bane. The upcoming patch will also be updating the item icons in Wild Rift to match the ones in PC version.

Frozen Heart, Force of Nature, and Sunfire Aegis will be released on the next update to provide tanks with new item options. Direct changes will also be made to Sheen, Trinity Force, and Lich Bane, removing mana from their build paths and adjusting their costs. This will help non-mana users to more broadly purchase the item. Riot is also looking to adjust the Sapphire Crystal, which now only builds into Tear of the Goddess, to allow players to start stacking up mana from the early stages of the game.

The devs will also be tweaking some changes into Thornmail and Winter's Approach/Fimbulwinter. To know more about these changes and Patch 2.2 Item Preview, you can check out Riot's blog post here.

Stargazer is a new skin line coming into the game and is exclusive only to Wild Rift. The Stargazer roster will include, Camille, Twisted Fate, and Soraka and will be featuring a small in-game event to celebrate its launch. Other skins such as God-King Darius, Blood Moon Kennen, Corgi Corki, Draven Draven, and Scorched Earth Renekton will be added along with the update.

ARAM Game Mode

All Random All Mid (ARAM) game mode is coming to Wild Rift but only for a limited time. It is a shorter, fast-paced game mode set on the Howling Abyss, where players will be facing off in only one lane and will be assigned a random champion from their pool. And just like in PC, rerolls will be available to use for players to get a chance to get a champion they like better. In this game mode, a new two-part summoner spell will be introduced - Mark/Dash. There will also be no healing and item purchase once you leave the base. So in order to purchase items, you must die first. Riot will be releasing the temporary ARAM test on all servers soon.

Master of the Hunt Event

The next major Wild Rift event was already teased during the Season 2021 opening livestream held in January 2021 and will be set to launch next month. It will be highlighting the rivalry of the game's two newest champion additions, Kha'Zix and Rengar. Riot will also be introducing a new gameplay system specifically for this event. More details about this and its rewards will be coming soon so stay tuned.

Wild Pass

Later in the patch, Riot Games will be introducing Wild Pass. Players will now have a different way to get more stuff just from playing. If you choose to upgrade your Wild Pass, you will be rewarded with skins, currencies, icons, emotes and other loots as it levels up. But if not, you can still earn Blue Motes and Poro Coins for free. Wild Pass Elite will also be available with extra missions and XP to speed up progress. Players who reach the 50th tier of the pass will be rewarded with an exclusive skin, Hexplorer Jax.

Position Preference System

Instead of adding a role selection system to Wild Rift, Riot Games will be running a short test for a better alternative, the Position Preference System. Players will be able to choose their preferred playstyle in the lobby and the matchmaking will try to assign you one of your more favorite roles. For players who don't want to pick manually, the game will be assigning them roles, based on their recent matches.

However, Riot Games is still trying to collect data and make improvements to this feature, so it will only be available for a short time.
