Mobile Legends Additional Balance Adjustments May 2024; Jungle Tanks vs Jungle Assassins

In the recent patches of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) game, there have been several adjustments that led to certain developments as players explore the metagame. One of the very important match-ups in the current metagame is the comparison between Jungle Tanks and Jungle Assassins. Many Jungle Tanks can invade the enemy Jungle Area of Jungle Assassins due to their fast Jungling Speed and high durability in the early game, as noted in the latest update in Patch 1.8.80 original server. The update buffed some of the Jungle Assassins and nerfed some of the Jungle Tanks with the aim of making both options equally competitive in the early game. Damage taken by all heroes in the enemy jungle area is increased by 20% as part of the Jungle Area Protection in the first 2 minutes which is a battlefield adjustment applied in this patch. Here are the jungle heroes that are adjusted in this hotfix of Patch Notes 1.8.80 Original Server.

1. Aamon buff

Increased his Jungling Speed and reduced skill cooldown.

[Passive] (↑)
Duration: 2.5s >> 3s

[Skill 1] (↑)
Cooldown: 9-6.5s >> 7s at all levels

[Skill 2] (↑)
Cooldown: 15-12.5s >> 13-11s

His passive skill effect now has a longer duration while his non-ultimate skills now have lower cooldown. Aamon uses these skills in jungling for the first two minutes of the game. This helps him unlock his ultimate skill faster and be on par with the Jungle Tanks.

2. Gusion buff

Increased his Jungling Speed and ability to fight Jungle Tanks.

[Passive] (↑)
Damage: 3% of target's Lost HP >> 3% of target's Max HP

Gusion not only now has a faster jungling speed capabilities but also deals more damage with his passive. This adjustment was mainly intended for Gusion to be able to be on par with Jungle Tanks not only in terms of Jungle speed but also when they will clash in objectives like Turtle taking. The 3% Max HP definitely deals higher damage to all heroes than 3% of target’s Lost HP where it only used to benefit more when picking off lower HP heroes.

3. Joy buff

Increased her Jungling Speed in the early game, and reduced her Ultimate cooldown.

[Passive] (↑)
Total Physical Attack Bonus for Basic Attacks: 25% >> 65%

[Ultimate] (↑)
Cooldown: 32s >> 28s

The game decided to buff Joy’s passive in order to increase her jungling speed. They also decided to decrease the cooldown of her ultimate skill since her usage rate in professional tournaments has also dropped off already. Joy was nerfed before when she was auto-banned in the pro scene and since she has been appearing way less again, this buff should make her a top consideration again.

4. Julian buff

Further increased Jungling Speed in the early game.

[Passive] (↑)
Enhanced Basic Attack Base Damage: 75 >> 100

[Attributes] (↑)
Basic Attack Speed: 0.99 >> 1.1

[Skill 1] (↑)
Base Damage: 380-700 >> 420-700

The last but not the least of the Jungle Assassins that got buffed is Julian. He received several adjustments in this patch and the most note-worthy is the higher skill 1 damage in the early game. His skill 1 still has the same base damage of 700 at max level but it is now higher from early to mid game. This not only increased his jungling speed but is also useful in early to mid game skirmishes.

5. Barats nerf

Lowered his early and mid game Jungling Speed and performance.

[Passive] (↓)
Hybrid Defense: 4-10 >> 3-9

[Skill 1] (↓)
Total Physical Attack Bonus for Detonation Damage: 200% >> 160%
Detonation Damage only deals 50% of damage to Creeps.

Barats is currently one of the top picks as jungle hero in the current metagame. His skill 1 helps him to clear jungle fast and thus, they reduce its damage along with being less effective when the target is a jungle creep. The hybrid defense on his passive is also nerfed so that he won’t dominate the game too much by being a very tanky jungler that is hard to kill and be stopped from using retribution in turtle/lord taking.

6. Fredrinn nerf

Fredrinn's control was a little too frequent. The game hopes to increase the downtime between combos while maintaining the experience of a full combo.

[Ultimate] (↓)
Cooldown: 7-5s >> 9-6s

For Fredrinn, it seems the game is fine with his current jungle speed and thus they nerfed this Jungle Tank in a different way. They increased the cooldown of his ultimate skill because the game thinks it is very spammable which makes Fredrinn overpowered. He is also currently a top Jungle tank pick that is almost an auto-pick if not banned in the first phase of the draft in professional tournaments.

In summary, four Jungle Assassins got buffed while 2 Jungle Tanks got nerfed. This update also not only adjusted the jungle aspect of the metagame but also in the Gold Lane. The patch notes stated that the game has toned down some of the non-Marksman heroes that have recently been overpowered in the Gold Lane to ease the pressure on traditional Marksmen when laning against them. That wraps up the latest original server update and the next one is expected to be a very huge one since the projected next update is the Project NEXT June 2024 Update.
