Announced to debut this November, Squid Game: The Challenge, the reality show version of the popular series Squid Game, will feature 456 individuals who will compete against each other to have the chance to win $4.56 million or PHP 254,596,200. However, the premiere date for the upcoming show has yet to be revealed.
Thankfully, Netflix cleared that the reality show wouldn’t be as intense as what we have watched in the series after stating in the announcement that the worst fate that the players could have is going home empty-handed. But still, the competitors will still take part in a series of cruel children’s games, just like in the original Netflix series.
However, even before the show was officially released, it already came under fire after reports of alleged mistreatments to the contestants were spread. It was said that the players were subjected to “inhumane conditions”.
After being woken up at 3:30 am to film for a specific game, the players were brought to a former aircraft hangar outside London, where they faced freezing temperatures. The contestants remained on set for nine hours without moving for lengthy periods of time because of the game they were playing, which made them feel fatigued.
Other reports claim that during another filming, at least 10 contestants collapsed while some stated that they were injured soon after the filming began. Medics repeatedly went to the set due to several contestants getting injured, often, with one contestant even referring to the show as a “warzone”.
Squid Game: The Challenge will have ten episodes with multiple games featured. Players will go through a series of challenges inspired by the original show along with some “surprising new additions” as well. Stay tuned!

“Squid Game took the world by storm with director Hwang’s captivating story and iconic imagery. We’re grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment,” said Netflix VP of unscripted and documentary series Brandon Riegg.

“The second time the song played, I saw in my left peripheral vision that this girl was swaying,” they claimed. “Then she just buckled, and you could hear her head actually hit the ground. But then someone came on the [microphone] and said to hold our positions because the game is not paused. After that, people were dropping like flies.”
