Having problems with lack of DPS? Not enough orbs to use skills? Shuten Doji is the best choice for you!

Shuten Doji does not need any orbs for output and unleashes high damage with his normal attack! Read the guide below and consider Shuten Doji in your lineup!

-----Overview------

[Shuten Doji]
Shuten Doji is the boss that rules the lands in Onmyoji and possesses incredible strength. In the game, even his normal attacks can produce staggering damage. In general, Shuten Doji has the following characteristics:

- Strengths: Shuten Doji does not rely on orbs for output, as his multi-hit normal attack can unleash explosive damage.

- Weaknesses: Takes some time to warm up and stack his Madness before he is able to deliver high damage. Weak against Shikigami who have dispel-type abilities.

- Recommendation: Since Shuten Doji does not require orbs to deliver high damage, he can provide damage in all kinds of situation. Recommended for all Onmyoji.

- Application: Shuten Doji performs well in the Hunt, Duel, and Secret Zone.

- Features: Shuten Doji’s main output comes from his normal attack, therefore he doesn’t rely on orbs, making him a suitable candidate for damage in parties that don’t have orb providers. As his Madness stacks up, the number of hits on his normal attack will also increase, unleashing staggering damage on his enemies.

------Skill Analysis------

- Normal attack “Calabash Spray”

This is Shuten Doji's core skill. His normal attack, which can hit for 5-hits max at once, when coupled with souls like Seductress or Dawn Fairy, can unleash devastating damage and negative effects on his target, exerting huge pressure on your opponents.
Also, in the current duel environment, players put great focus on how to interrupt the enemy team from gaining orbs, therefore a damage dealer like Shuten Doji, who doesn’t rely on orbs for output, can have surprising effects in duels.

- Passive Skill “Madness”

Shuten Doji's passive skill provides him with Madness, which is very important to power Shuten Doji’s other two skills.
Some notes though, the damage transmitted by the Water Circuit of Shuzu do not trigger the passive skill of Shuten Doji; also, in the presence of a shield, Shuten Doji cannot use his passive skill to stack on his Madness if he is unharmed.
More importantly, Madness generated by this skill can be dissipated by dispel-type abilities from Shikigami like Ame Onna and Sakura. In addition, Scarlet and Soultaker can also help Shuten Doji stack Madness faster.

- Active Skill “Healing Rage”

At the cost of spending all his Madness, this skill allows Shuten Doji to heal himself, increase his move bar, gain the ability to able to absorb HP and become immune to a range of negative effects. This skill could be a lifesaver where there aren’t any healing-type Shikigami in the party, or Shuten Doji is on the verge of dying.
However, this skill only allows Shuten Doji to heal himself, while spending all his Madness means Shuten Doji will lose a lot of damage, therefore in general, Shuten Doji doesn’t use this skill very often, unless in dire situations.

------Souls Selection------

Soultaker (4-pc set) + Crit/ATK (2-pc set)
(Slot 2 - SPD; Slot 4 - ATK; Slot 6 - Crit/Crit DMG)

Shuten Doji with Soultaker is a formidable damage dealer since Shuten Doji does not rely on orbs, gaining an extra turn simply equals to double the damage output, while giving Shuten Doji an additional chance to gain 1 more layer of Madness. Also, since most Shuten Doji doesn’t focus on Effect RES, Soultaker can give Shuten Doji an additional chance to attack even when he is inflicted with negative effects.

Dawn Fairy (4-pc set) + Crit/ATK (2-pc set)
(Slot 2 - SPD; Slot 4 - ATK; Slot 6 - Crit/Crit DMG)

Since Shuten Doji’s normal attack is multi-hit, the chance of activating Dawn Fairy’s effect is increased, and may even activate it multiple times. This works great especially against Shikigami like Ame Onna and Sakura, which possesses dispel-type skills and can dissipate Shuten Doji’s Madness. If Shuten Doji can push back their move bar, he will have more time to stack Madness and output more damage.

Seductress (4-pc set) + Crit/ATK (2-pc set)
(Slot 2 - SPD; Slot 4 - ATK; Slot 6 - Crit/Crit DMG)

Same as the case of Dawn Fairy, the multi-hit normal attack of Shuten Doji can increase the chance of activating the effect of Seductress, resulting in a tremendous amount of damage against a single target. Especially in PvE situations, a high SPD Shuten Doji coupled with Seductress is an effective damage dealer against bosses.

Scarlet (4-pc set) + Crit/ATK (2-pc set)
(Slot 2 - SPD; Slot 4 - ATK; Slot 6 - Crit/Crit DMG)

Shuten Doji coupled with Scarlet and teaming up with Shuzu can greatly increase the chance of Shuten Doji performing counterattack, making Shuten Doji stack up his Madness faster. Please be noted that the counter-attack triggered by Scarlet will only be a one-hit normal attack, no matter how many layers of Madness Shuten Doji has on him.

Jizo Deity (4-pc set) + Crit/ATK (2-pc set)
(Slot 2 - SPD; Slot 4 - ATK; Slot 6 - Crit/Crit DMG)

A Shuten Doji with Jizo Deity is very endurable, as the shield by Jizo Deity can absorb a lot of damage. By withstanding attacks and stacking up on Madness, even if all his teammates have fallen, Shuten Doji still has a chance to turn the table by himself.

------Sample Team------

Kamaitachi, Yamausagi, Maestro

How much damage Shuten Doji's can output rely heavily on his Madness, therefore Shikigami that can boost move bar will be a great teammate for Shuten Doji. The more turn Shuten Doji has, the more chance he has to pile on Madness.

Shuzu

For parties that revolve around Shuzu and no orb producers, Shuten Doji is the best choice for damage output. If Shuten Doji is equipped with Scarlet, damage dispersed by Shuzu can trigger Shuten Doji to counter-attack, giving him more chance to stack up on Madness.

Enma, Red Imp

Shuten Doji is weak against dispel-type Shikigami because they can dissipate Shuten Doji’s Madness, significantly lowering his damage. Having control-type Shikigami like Enma or Red Imp in your party can help counter this and protect Shuten Doji.

------Relevant------
Restrained:
Ame Onna: Her offensive dispel effect can dissipate Shuten Doji's Madness and stop him from gaining Madness quickly, significantly reducing Shuten Doji’s damage.
Sakura: Same with Ame Onna, her offensive dispel skill can also clear Shuten Doji's Madness.

Restraining:
Aoandon: Aoandon is specialized in restricting opponent’s orb production while dealing massive damage. However, Shuten Doji doesn’t rely on orbs for damage output, therefore Aoandon can do little to restrict his damage.
Samurai X: Samurai X's Taunt control is almost useless against Shuten Doji, as his main damage output is his normal attack. By stacking on Madness, Shuten Doji might even be able to take out Samurai X in one blow.

Comparison with other similar Shikigami:

Vampira: Vampira is one of few Shikigami in the game where she relies on her normal attacks more than other skills. Similar to Shuten Doji, she doesn’t rely much on orbs for damage output and can dish out tremendous damage when coupled with the correct souls and teammates. However, Vampira’s weakness is that her damage output is inversely related to her HP, therefore players must control the balance between Vampira’s damage while maintaining her HP at a level so she does not get killed easily. Also, Vampira’s damage output relies heavily on her passive skill and souls, therefore she is weak against negative effects like Seal and Morph.

Shuten Doji: Coupled with the correct souls. Shuten Doji has the highest damage output against a single target. At full Madness, Shuten Doji can dish out tremendous damage without consuming any orb, making him a formidable opponent in PvE and PvP battles.
However, as Shuten Doji is an SSR Shikigami, his skills are difficult to level up. It also takes time for Shuten Doji to stack on Madness, therefore he cannot go all out full power when the battle begins. At the same time, as his Madness can be dispelled, Shuten Doji is especially afraid of dispel-type of Shikigami.
