For beginners, Viking Bay really is the easiest start. It's a very nice area and the blue obi is not far down the coast. Difficulty 3/10 imo.
If you want an Equus early on, choose a Highlands spawn, and find the carrot farm. Equus roam around there, you'll have one quickly. But gigas and allosaurus also roam there, so be aware of them too
Other than that, it's just a much bigger, more beautiful, better Island.
