PUBG Studios develops their own extraction shooter game codenamed Project Black Budget

During its latest earnings report, publisher Krafton has revealed that they are hopping into the extraction shooter trend and that the project is being developed by PUBG Studios. The project is named Project Black Budget, in the meantime.

In the previous earnings report of Krafton back in November 2022, Krafton has already revealed that they are currently in the process of developing Project Black Budget, which back in that time, was only described as a new “PvPvE looter shooter”. But in this new report, Krafton confirms as well as reveals the Project Black Budget, in which through this project, they aim to “popularize the extraction shooter genre” by drawing on their experience with PUBG.

“We can confirm that an extraction shooter under the title of Project Black Budget is currently in development at PUBG Studios.”

Add to that, Krafton declares that the project is being developed to have “an ever-changing PvPvE open-world and satisfying gunplay that delivers unpredictable and exciting experiences.” They also said that they are “considering” which platforms they will release it on, naming PC, consoles, and mobile.

Project Black Budget will launch in either 2024 or 2025, as revealed through the table that shows when Krafton’s pipeline projects will be released. The project is categorized as one of six “strategic” releases of the company along with other upcoming games, such as Project Gold Rush, which is a “a compelling PvPvE sandbox”. There are two strategic releases that are set to be released in 2024 and four that are set to be released in 2025.

For now, as information is still scarce along with a lack of concept art, it appears to be that Project Black Budget will be released in 2025. Stay tuned for more details!
