PUBG’s original Erangel map will be having its comeback for a limited time only

Krafton has announced that the PUBG’s original Erangel map will be returning with “nostalgic” graphics and old-school balancing. However, the map will only stay for two weeks only.

The Erangel Classic will launch on May 14 as part of update 29.2 of the game. The upcoming map is a recreation of the initial version of Erangel, PUBG’s first ever battleground. The map is “designed to evoke nostalgia for players who remember the early access days.”

PUBG was first launched on Steam in Early Access in March 2017. The game became widely popular and then became known as PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. The game hit Steam’s record concurrent player peak of 3,257,248, a record no game has beat yet. Currently, PUBG still remains as one of Steam's most-played games.

As per Krafton, Erangel Classic “blends the original concepts and atmosphere of Erangel at the time of its first release with current gameplay elements to provide a unique old-school experience.” Featured in Erangel Classic are some iconic elements from the original Erangel map. Here’s the official statement of Krafton:

Upon entering Erangel Classic, players will find that benches have returned, with weapons placed on them across the starting island. The gunplay balance has also been adjusted to capture the feel of the early days, with the recoil of all weapons, except for a few, being reduced. Players can also find the Tommy Gun in the Care Package, just like in the old days. Additionally, players will be able to experience foggy and rainy weather, as well as graphics, world map, and a minimap that call back to the original PUBG: Battlegrounds release.

Erangel Classic can be experienced by players in Normal Match for a limited time. The map will be available on PC starting on May 14 until May 28. While in consoles, it will be on May 23 to June 6. During the availability of Erangel Classic, the current Erangel map in Normal Match will be replaced.
