The Outlast Trials, a cooperative spin-off to the well-liked survival horror Outlast duology, will be available in early access on May 18, 2023, according to Red Barrels. Although it's only been announced for PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, it's possible that the game may eventually be released on other platforms as well. The Outlast Trials' early access edition is not currently available for preorder, but you may put it to your wish list on Steam and the Epic Games Shop.
Outlast has previously only been a single-player series of terrifying survival horror games. In 2013, Outlast was released, exposing players to the Murkoff Corporation's studies on aggressive asylum detainees. Another Murkoff experiment is introduced in Outlast 2, and this one results in the emergence of a homicidal cult. Red Barrels has since made the decision to change the course of Outlast and move away from campaign-driven single-player horror games in favor of something new.
The third core game in the Outlast series is The Outlast Trials, however this new release will significantly differ from the others. The Outlast Trials will have a similar presentation to previous editions, but it will now allow cooperative play with up to four-player teams. You will, however, be able to play alone as well. Each "trial" will include one to four players attempting to achieve objectives, avoid terrifying foes, and survive to leave. Like a live service game, the gameplay is intended to be replayed. When The Outlast Trials officially releases in early access, players can expect to learn more about how long-form advancement and storytelling will function.
Red Barrels announced that The Outlast Trials will be available early access beginning May 18 in a trailer posted on Friday. However, the teaser doesn't show much of the gameplay, instead concentrating on audio clips of the game's voice actors making horrifying noises. At the very least, it successfully captures the mood of The Outlast Trials. Additionally, it looks from the trailer that both Steam and the Epic Games Store will offer early access, giving PC players a choice between the two.
Character customization will be available in the Outlast Trials as well, with upgradeable perks, tools, and even the option to customize your prison cell. Moreover, just as in earlier chapters, you'll need to conduct an investigation by gathering documents to learn more about the Murkoff Corporation.
The following is a brief overview of the game when it was announced way back 2019:
It has been previously revealed that The Outlast Trials is not a free-to-play game, despite what would seem to be a live service-like framework. Red Barrels is inviting fans to "volunteer" for The Outlast Trials early access, but it will probably be a pricey buy as a result. Between now and launch, more details will undoubtedly be released, so keep an eye on Red Barrels' social media outlets for the next update.
