Redmi Gaming Phone Redmi K40 first-ever gaming handset to release this April

Since last week, Redmi has been announcing the launch of a new gaming-focused phone under the Redmi name. The company did not specify when the new phone would be unveiled at the time. However, we now have official confirmation. The Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition, a new gaming phone from Redmi, will be available in China on April 27. The company has also released a phone preview that shows several main design features. The Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition is seen in the teaser with a triple camera rig on the rear. When the gaming lever is toggled, it raises the shoulder keys and illuminates the LED light circles around the camera module.

The phone is expected to be powered by MediaTek’s flagship Dimensity 1200 chipset along with a large 5,000mAh battery that charges via a 67W fast charger. Being a gaming phone, it will also come equipped with dedicated shoulder keys that will aid multi-finger gaming operations in shooting games. As for the pricing, the report mentions the phone could be priced around 15,000php (2000 Yuan). If true, this would make it the cheapest gaming phone on the market.

The new phone will have a shoulder on the edge, but when held horizontally, it will be on top. The camera configuration is also unique; Redmi will keep the concept of two large lenses but will add a third large camera in the center, eliminating the need for an empty circle. When Game Mode is activated, the shooters will have an LED ring around them that will light up.

Redmi K40 and Pro may be renamed Mi 11X for India, K40 Pro+ to be called Mi 11i instead.

According to the 3C certification of the device, the Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition will have 67W charging support and 5G connectivity. It reveals that the phone will ship with the MDY-12-EF travel adapter, which is the same charger that ships with the Mi 11 series smartphones.

According to the leaks, the Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition will have an E4 AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate. The device is said to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC. Rumors also suggest that the Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition will have a 64MP primary camera at the rear.

When it comes to the mode, it will be activated by a physical key located next to the top trigger. The volume rocker will most definitely be on the left side, but we shouldn't be surprised if all the keys are on one side. Another preview now brings us a glimpse of the results. The computer scored 724,495 points in an AnTuTu 9 benchmark poll, which is only above the Snapdragon 870 we tested on the OnePlus 9R and the Vivo X60 Pro. Overall, the latter received 720,352 points.

While the existing K40 series phones support a 120HZ refresh rate, the K40 Game Enhanced Edition is expected to offer a refresh rate of up to 144Hz. It will be driven by the Density 1200 chipset.

  • Xiaomi Mi 11X is indeed a rebrand of Redmi K40.
  • Redmi K40 originally launched in China back in February.
  • Mi 11X specifications include Snapdragon 870, 120Hz AMOLED display, 48MP triple cameras.
Estimated Prices
  • 6GB+128GB model, RMB 2,199 (approx 16,000php)
  • 8GB+128GB option, RMB 2,499 (approx 18,000php)
  • 8GB+256GB variant, and RMB 2,699 (approx 20,000php)

At this time, it's unknown if the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition will be exclusive to China or will be available in other markets. What is obvious is that it would give the likes of the ROG Phone 5 and the Red Magic 6 a run for their money.
