With the successful preseason of League of Legends: Wild Rift that ended with the Horizon Cup, the game’s esports league is gearing up this 2022. Details about Wild Rift’s esports roadmap for 2022 was revealed during Riot Games’ Season 2022 livestream.
The first official season will kick off with eight regional leagues around the world. Riot Games that these “foundational” regions will have their own “unique flavor and style”, pertaining that these regions may follow different formats just like in 2021. The first season will start in January to May.
Riot also announced that the first official global competition for Wild Rift will happen in Europe this summer. The Wild Rift Global Championship Icons will be an offline event.
Twenty-four teams from the regional leagues will be featured. Eight teams out of the twenty-four will directly qualify for the main event while the rest will go against each other in the play-in stage. The main event will feature a group stage, knockouts, and grand finals.
It’s surprising to see Wild Rift’s main esports event take place in the summer since most of the world esport championships occur towards the end of the year but this is a welcome surprise since it will be exciting to watch who will be the world champion of League of Legends: Wild Rift.
