After handling its operations since the launch of League of Legends in Southeast Asia in 2010, Garena has relinquished its operations of the games to Riot, which gives the company full control over the games in the SEA region.

"We are grateful for Garena’s partnership and publishing support over the past decade. Their efforts have built an incredible community of League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics players across Southeast Asia, and the games’ success would have been impossible without them.
“We would like to thank Riot and the League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics communities for their tremendous support and partnership in growing both games to the successes they are today in Southeast Asia and Taiwan. We are honoured to have worked together with Riot over the past decade to create the best possible experiences for players, and wish the team every success in this next chapter,” said Kevin Huang, Regional Producer of League of Legends, Garena.

Since the publishing will be transitioned to Riot from Garena, there’ll be new League and TFT servers that will be launched in January 2023 and after that the Garena servers will cease their operations. To ensure that the transfer of the existing accounts of players are safe and the data will be retained, Riot and Garena are working closely on the account linking process that will open for all players starting on November 18th, 2022.

After the account linking process this November, players can still continue to play League of Legends through the Garena client until early January 2023. But after the Riot servers go live, players can start playing League of Legends on the Riot multi-game client. To have their history fully migrated into the new server, players should login first then confirm their instructions. Relaunch dates will be announced at a later time.

To encourage players in migrating their accounts as early as possible or until December 2022, they will be rewarded with a suite of welcome in-game rewards and events. Note that the personal data that was provided to Garena will not be migrated.
