Sibol reveals why Liquid ECHO Sanford is banned from the MLBB Men's National Team

As the SIBOL National Team selection for the IESF 2024 MLBB Men’s comes to a conclusion, fans have been asking why the MPL Philippines Season 13 champion, Liquid ECHO, was not present for qualifiers.

It was answered during Liquid ECHO’s jungler player Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno’s YouTube live, where he responded to a fan asking why ECHO did not join in the SIBOL team selection and confirmed if Sanford "Sanford' Vinuya was really banned from the overall qualifiers.

According to KarlTzy, Sanford was banned from SIBOL due to his refusal to join last year’s offer to be part of the roster for the International Esports Federation's (IESF) World Esports Championship 2023 in Romania.

"Na-ban si Ford guys, kaya hindi na kami natuloy. Hindi [dahil] sa age. Na-ban siya kasi tinanggihan niya yung last offer sa kanya. Diba nanalo yung Bren sa Sibol, sa IESF? Siya kasi dapat yung EXP doon.”

There were rumors circulating around that Sanford’s age could possibly be the reason why he wasn’t able to join the IESF last year, but it turns out that he was the one who refused.

This was also confirmed by SIBOL General Manager Jab Escutin, who revealed that the ban will be lifted on February 28, 2025.

Sibol added, “Vinuya denied the privilege to serve his country solely based on the reason that his entire team was not selected to represent the country, saying that it would affect his team’s performance in the upcoming tournaments."

It is because, according to KarlTzy, MPL is still ongoing during the invitation to Sanford, hence the refusal.

“Ongoing yung MPL noon, so mahahati yung practice namin noon. Siya lang mag-isang kukunin, e di mawawalan kami (ECHO) ng EXP lane.”

Escutin also pointed out that Sibol invited Team ECHO to this year’s Sibol qualifiers, with the exception of Sanford Vinuya. But the team decided to decline as “they cannot commit to finishing the qualifiers and commit to individually serving the country if any of their players are selected.”

The selection of players for the final roster of IESF is still in the process and will consist of players from RRQ Kaito, Falcons AP Bren, Smart Omega, and RV Fryd Esports. It will be headed by Coach Jian Munsayac of RRQ Kaito and will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
