Slam Dunk animated movie to be released on Fall of 2022

Slam Dunk, the popular ‘90s basketball anime series, is set to return next year with a brand new movie.

The film will be directed and written by series and manga creator Takehiko Inoue. The upcoming film also received its first teaser trailer on August 13, which features a list of the movie’s contributing animators and producers.

Takehiko Inoue, the famous anime's creator, initially announced the film on social media in January, more than 20 years after the hit anime ended its three-year run from 1993 to 1996. The Slam Dunk manga debuted in 1990 and continued for six years, selling over 120 million copies and ranking as the 13th best-selling manga series of all time.

Between 1994 and 1995, the series got four animated features, all of which were created by Toei Animation, a Japanese production studio (One Piece, Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon). Toei Animation will produce the forthcoming film in 2022.

Per a Crunchyroll report, Daiki Nakazawa (Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods) will contribute as the film’s CG director while Yasuyuki Ebara (Attack on Titan) will serve as character designer and animation director.

Slam Dunk tells the narrative of Hanamichi Sakuragi, a rebellious student at Shohoku High who discovers a new interest for athletics after a failed attempt to pursue females.

Sakuragi meets Haruko, a new girl with whom he falls in love right away. To earn her attention, Sakuragi begins basketball training and joins the school team, with the goal of winning a national championship.
