Square Enix SaGa Frontier Remastered Will Be Soon Available On PC, PS4, Switch, Android, & iOS PC PlayStation Nintendo iOS Android

Following the unfortunate news on Square Enix's sales on Marvel Avengers, we can't deny that they're still on the roll. They recently announced that SaGa Frontier will be remastered and its estimated release date ain't that far from the present. Square Enix already build an official site for SaGa Frontier Remastered and it's full of promotional images. That's enough for the introduction, so let's head to the details.

You've already seen it so let's start with the estimated release date. Square Enix is aiming to officially launch SaGa Frontier Remastered in the summer of 2021 globally. It's been 23 years since it was first released in Japan back in 1997 and it received an English translation when it was released in North America a year after.

Who would've thought that the SaGa fan base is still out there after all these years! Romancing SaGa ReuniverSe received a whopping 25 million downloads worldwide despite Romancing SaGa 2 & 3, and SaGa SCARLET GRACE's bad figures in mobile port. Looking at how the community reacted to this remastered game, it seems that there's still a relative number of fans who are excited to play the game.

While it is true that getting this remaster may seem like a waste of resources on Square Enix's side, nobody can deny that it is cheaper than creating a new game. It may or may not be connected to their current recovery status from Marvel Avengers' unexpected failure. But, at least, the game already exists! A few polishing and translation jobs are needed and it will be ready for porting.

Both the SaGa series Director Akitoshi Kawazu and Producer Masanori Ichikawa seem to be itching in giving us a series of remastered games. Romancing Saga 2 was released back in 2016 and Romancing Saga 3 was released in 2019 but didn't receive enough attention. Fortunately, Romancing SaGa ReuniverSe saved them after its release last June. Will SaGa Frontiered Remastered receive enough attention next year or will it meet the same fate as its remastered predecessors?

What's new about the game? Fuse, also known as Lostar, is now added as a playable character. You've got 8 characters to choose from with different goals and endings each. A new system called Free-Form Scenario System is added wherein your decisions will affect the events that will unfold. The events that weren't included in the original release are now implemented. To make it simple, the full Asellus’ story is now playable.

The graphic quality is enhanced for higher resolution. Although it somehow reminds me of Summon Night: Swordcraft Story or one of those classic Gameboy Yu-gi-oh games. There's not much else to add so let's just patiently wait for the game's release. I'll try to give it a review if I find the opportunity to try it.

Here's the game detail from the official site stating which platforms are included. The game will be available on Switch, PC (Steam), PS4, PS5 (backward compatibility), Android, and iOS. They're really trying to giving it a shot. And before we end, I'm giving all the credits to Square Enix and their team behind SaGa Frontier Remastered for all the images and content I've used. I've been a fan of FF and KH games, but after writing this, I think I found an interest in the SaGa games. Looking forward to that 2021 Summer release!
