Tencent Announces Undawn, New Zombie Survival Game For Mobile And PC

In the new world struck by chaos, fight for your survival as you face off against both the undead and the living. Are you ready to embark on a daring adventure?

Global video game publisher and developer Tencent Games recently announced its upcoming open world, post-apocalyptic, co-op zombie survival game, Undawn. Tencent's Lightspeed and Quantum Studios, the team behind the global hit PUBG Mobile, will be handling the development of the upcoming title and will be available for mobile devices and PC.

Executive Producer at Lightspeed and Quantum Studios Rick Li said, “With Undawn, we wanted to create a new type of action game that combines open-world freedom with RPG elements that would completely redefine the genre, regardless of platform. The fact that we created such an amazing experience for mobile and PC platforms means that even more players around the globe will be able to survive the apocalypse together, creating the potential for a huge new type of open world experience.”

Undawn will also be incorporating both Player vs Player (PvP) and Player vs Environment (PvE) gameplay, which may be very much similar to Overwatch 2. The developers expect it to be a fresh take on the open world survival experience for both mobile and PC.

The game will be a huge, open world survival game set in a hellish and unforgiving landscape filled with threats from both zombies and humans. In order to thrive and survive, players will have to engage with other players, banding together for a stronger battlefront. Scavenge and trade for resources, craft supplies, build unique shelters and forge weapons to fight off against the countless rampaging undead hordes.

It will be built with Unreal Engine 4, serving up flashy visuals and will be pushing the limits for both graphics and multiplayer gameplay. In addition, the game's official website has already released details about some of the characters and factions you’ll meet along the way, including the beardy Owl Gang, mini-gun-totting Eagles, and the dreaded Clowns. You can check it out here.

Only limited details have been officially available so far since Undawn is still currently under development. But it is interesting to see if it will introduce custom or preset factions for players to join since the game does allow co-op just like other multiplayer titles. An official release date has also yet to be confirmed, but it is known that Undawn is currently slated for release some time this year for iOS, Android, and PC.
