The First Slam Dunk Movie to Premier on December 3 in Japan

Last Saturday, various Japanese cinema chains shared images on Twitter of theatrical posters for the new anime film based on Takehiko Inoue's Slam Dunk basketball manga at their locations, all of which state that the film will be released in Japan on December 3.

Takehiko Inoue, the film's creator, will also direct it, together with with Yasuyuki Ebara (Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress) as the character designer and animation director. As of now, there are no details on if the film will be an original story or a continuation of the manga's storyline.

The first teaser for the film will be released on July 7 at 19:00 [JPT].

To commemorate the announcements, posters depicting the main characters, Hanamichi Sakuragi and Kaede Rukawa, are currently displayed in movie theaters across the country. A new set of posters featuring key players from the Shohoku High School basketball team was also released on the official Twitter account.

The original manga revolved around Hanamichi Sakuragi is a delinquent with a long history of getting dumped by girls. After enrolling in Shohoku High School, Hanamichi becomes interested in a girl named Haruko who loves the game of basketball.​
