Warframe, a free-to-play online shooter developed by Digital Extremes, has grown in popularity over the years on PC and consoles, including the Nintendo Switch. Previously, it had been speculated that a mobile port for the game might be in the works, and now it appears that it will be implemented soon. Digital Extremes announced during Warframe's keynote presentation at TennoCon 2021 that not only will Warframe be fully available on mobile devices, but it will also have full cross save and cross play functionality across all platforms.

Finally, after years of pleading from fans, Warframe is getting both crossplay and cross-save functionality. Therefore, players will be able to play with their friends regardless of which console they are using, be it the Playstation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, or the Nintendo Switch, as long as they are connected to the internet. Additionally, Warframe's console updates, which will begin with the release of The New War later this year, will take place at the same time as the PC update, as previously announced.

Although the feature is still in development, it is expected to be available in the near future and will remove all restrictions on how and with whom you play Warframe. Moreover, due to cross-save functionality, players will be able to freely switch between those systems and pick up right where they left off, as demonstrated in the final segment of the yearly TennoCon Warframe Event.

“Community is incredibly important to us and opening up Cross Play and Cross Save is just one of many more efforts we’ll take on to bring more players together including extending Warframe’s fast, fluid, action combat experience to other global gaming platforms. We are at the very beginning of the next-generation of Warframe. We are eight years young and have the benefit of beginning our second console generation with a major game expansion that will also mark a new chapter of more story-based content our players have been asking for.”

When asked about the risks of implementing crossplay and cross save for Warframe, Digital Extremes' creative director Steve Sinclair stated that it was one of the "highest-risk things" the company could do. Initially, there was never a guarantee that the game would eventually include it as a feature. However, with the increasing prevalence of crossplay and cross-save features in video games, these features are considered essential for free-to-play games like Warframe, and they may encourage more players to finally dive into the massive sci-fi title.

Additionally, Digital Extremes disclosed the game's next major expansion, The New War, which will be released later this year in conjunction with the game's upcoming mobile version, cross-play, and cross-save features. When it launches later this year, it will be the first expansion to do so simultaneously across all platforms. One of the highlights of TennoCon 2021 was a 30-minute live gameplay demo that "shocked crowds by demonstrating Corpus Engineer Veso, Grineer Soldier Kahl-175, and even fan-favorite Dax warrior Teshin — all of whom were playable in a Quest for the first time ever."

Upon its release on all platforms in 2021, this new story expansion will provide long-awaited answers to questions that were raised during the cinematic quest for The Second Dream.
