Zeal Esports seals championship at Valorant Tournament: ONE

Zeal Esports won the KJC eSports Valorant Tournament: ONE after defeating Paper Rex in the grand finals on June 26, 2021, over 64 other Southeast Asian teams.

Dominique “N1CO” Tul-id, Carl “senyorcarl” Carandang, Keith “FireSaiyajin” Madarang, James “2geMONSTAH” Goopio, Vince “Flash” Medado, and Craig Zachary “CraigyS” Salgado, a Cebuano squad, defeated Singaporean powerhouse Paper Rex 3-1 in the best of five grand finals series.

They accomplished this by capturing the first two maps in the series, faltering a little on the third map, Icebox, and ultimately securing the series on Split.

  • The first match that went into overtime and lasted for 53 minutes and 33 seconds was won by Zeal with a score of 14-12
  • The second game was played on the map Bind, which PRX chose, with Zeal dominating the offensive side, winning the first seven rounds en way to a 13-5 victory in the series' shortest game (34 minutes and 32 seconds).
  • With 25 kills and a battle score of 355, FIRESAIYAJIN was the team's top performer.
  • Zeal had an opportunity to win it early by sweeping PRX, but the Singaporean squad had different plans.
  • The final game was played on Icebox, which was Zeal's choice, but PRX triumphed 13-9. f0rsakeN and d4v41 each had 20 or more kills, but no one on the Philippine squad did.
  • Craigys replaced Flash in the fourth game of the map Split, and Zeal made roster adjustments. Zeal was named champion of the event by KJC eSports after a 14-12 overtime triumph.
Current head coach Yuki “Zyki” Uruma said they are ecstatic to have won the international event in a private post-tournament interview with Esports Inquirer.

“We just had to keep to our daily routine, and I told the lads that whether it was international or local, they just had to trust in [themselves] and the team, and we would win the games because our strats in this meta are strong,” Zyki said when asked how they prepared for the event.

Zeal Esports owner Elmer Salupan stated that they would like to maintain their present momentum as they prepare for the next VCT Stage 3 – Challengers PH: Week 1 Playoffs, and that sponsors would be much welcomed as they continue to develop the company.
